Bhitarkanika National Park is the core area of Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary located in the north-east region of Kendrapara district in the state of Odisha in eastern India. It spreads over 145 km2 (56 sq mi) and is surrounded by the Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary spread over 672 km2 (259 sq mi). It was designated as national park on 16 September 1998 and as a Ramsar site by UNESCO on 19 August 2002. Gahirmatha Beach and Marine Sanctuary lies to the east, and separates swamp region cover with canopy of mangroves from the Bay of Bengal.
The national park is home to Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), Indian python, King cobra, black ibis, darters and many other species of flora and fauna. It hosts a large number of mangrove species, and is the second largest mangrove ecosystem in India.
The national park and wildlife sanctuary is inundated by the rivers Brahmani, Baitarani, Dhamra, Pathsala.
The land of lush green mangroves, migrating birds and turtles, the menacing estuarine crocodiles, meandering water courses, tranquil surrounding intercepted by the chirping of birds and the ever embracing nature, entrails visitors from near and far off places to flock these unique places of tourist importance. Bhitarkanika is a unique habitat of Mangrove Forests criss-crossed with numerous creeks and mud flats located in Kendrapara district of Orissa. Bhitarkanika National Park is a prime habitat of leopard cat, fishing cat, jungle cat, hyena, wild boar, spotted deer, sambar, porcupine, dolphin, salt water crocodile including partially white crocodile, python, king cobra, water monitor lizards, terrapin, marine turtle, kingfisher, wood pecker, hornbill, bar headed geese, brahminy duck, pintail, white bellied sea eagle, tern, sea gull, waders and a large variety of resident and migratory birds.
Entry Points
Khola and Gupti are the two main entry points to enter the most sought-after destination, Bhitarkanika National Park. Visitors should take entry permit from the Forest Check Gate at Khola and Gupti.
Both Forest Department’s and private boats are available at both the places.
Private boats are also available at JAYANAGAR & CHANDABALI.

Day -01: BHUBANESWAR – BHITARKANIKA:
As you arrive at Bhubaneswar Railway Station / Airport, our representative will guide you the selected hotel in Bhitarkanika. On the way, you can visit Buddhist Monasteries and Stupas in Ratnagiri, Udayagiri and Lalitgiri. After checking-in and savouring lunch at the Resort, a cruise to Kali Bhanja Diha Island will be organized. A countryside boat that is approved by Wildlife Department will tour you around offering a panoramic view of the Ramsar area. Later, in the evening, spend some time around the campfire followed by dinner and overnight stay at the resort.
Day -02: BHITARKANIKA:
The next day after breakfast, visit the Bird Sanctuary and also trek to the hunting tower which was once the favourite place to hunt by the Ancient King. You can also cruise to different creeks on a boat that is approved by Wildlife Department. Through this, you may get a chance to see crocodiles. Also, visit the Museum and Project Area followed by a lunch. In the late afternoon, visit Jagannath temple and witness the live aarti darshan. This will be followed by dinner near the campfire. Overnight at Resort in Bhitarkanika.
Day -03: BHITARKANIKA – SIMILIPAL:
On the 3rd day, checkout from the hotel in Bhubaneswar after breakfast and visit the Similipal Tiger Reserve. Check-in at the accommodation and proceed for lunch. Later go for a nature walk and study at the herbal nursery and also visit the Crocodile Breeding Farm. After sightseeing, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day -04: SIMILIPAL:
After early breakfast, head towards two beautiful waterfalls – Barehipani and Joranda. You can also go for a Jungle Safari around the reserve. Later, a visit to Chahala Zone will follow. Overnight stay at the hotel in Similipal.
Day -05: SIMILIPAL – BALASORE / BHUBANESWAR RAILWAY STATION:
On the last day, after breakfast checkout from the hotel and drive to Bhubaneswar Airport/ Railway Station for onward journey.
